Stepping into 2026 with a blossoming reputation for fostering thoughtful, soulful experiences; both on the dancefloor and across world-renowned cultural spaces. From residencies at Corsica Studios/The Carpet Shop, moments at Open Ground, Panorama Bar, Nowadays and Public Records to his curatorial prowess at the Barbican Centre (an ongoing residency), Frieze Week, Lisson Gallery and Le Guess Who? Festival to name a few.

All this while Touching Bass — the London-based musical movement encompassing an award-nominated record label, club night, concert series, staple NTS Radio show and curatorial studio — continues to slow cook. Mali Larrington-Nelson AKA Shy One lives and breathes the eclecticism and diversity of her DJ sets and productions. Having started off DJing on pirate radio as a teenager, Shy One has been exposed to and influenced by the full spectrum of sounds her hometown of London has birthed and nurtured over the years. As with many young Londoners at the time, grime and the wider family of indigenous London club music was what gave Shy One the passion to pursue music as more than a pastime. Obsessively collecting white labels by some of her local production heroes quickly developed into obsessively making beats in Fruity Loops for a handful of local MCs bubbling up in Harrow, the North West London borough she grew up in. Undeterred by those in the scene who called her beats “weird” or “different”, Shy One ploughed on carving out her own sound which eventually caught the ear of Scratcha DVA, who went on to release the Decaffeinated Love EP and her debut LP, Bedknobs and Boomkicks, on his now renowned DVA Music imprint.

Rosa, now based in Rotterdam, found creative ways to thrive at night in her former hometown by organizing free outdoor parties and founding the collective Rooibosch. She later started Draaisessies in Tilburg: a community hub offering free music production and DJ lessons to local youth. Rosa’s musical style blends diverse rhythms and genres; focusing on bass-heavy, percussion-driven tracks in club settings, while her radio show Work in Progress on Operator features warm, experimental music for relaxed listening.

KØKØ, born and based in Wuppertal, is one of the founders of the Sequence Collective. He draws inspiration from the atmospheric styles of the techno scene of the 2010s. His sound is a fusion of deep, ambient textures and driving beats, influenced by immersive, hypnotic and dynamic elements.

Freifeld: This September, Errol brings Touching Bass back to Open Ground for a debut session in the Freifeld main room, joined by three women at the forefront of adventurous, body music: Josey Rebelle, Shy One and Viola Klein.

Josey Rebelle is an Open Ground resident for good reason—a north star for generations of Black British selectors and countless others beyond. Fresh from releasing one of dance music's most complete and quietly defining albums of recent years, Mali (via Touching Bass), DJ and NTS Radio favourite, Shy One marks her long-awaited debut at Open Ground. Cologne-via-Dakar-based Viola Klein is a longtime contemporary and supporter, whose work reflects her own transnational musical network connecting Detroit house, West African rhythms and electronic experimentalism.

Together, they embody the genre-defying spirit that has long defined the Touching Bass dancefloor—grounded in the soulful, percussive and deeply groove-led.

For the past decade, Errol and his life partner Alex Rita have grown the platform into one of London's defining musical movements, curating spaces where emotional resonance and free-spirited dancefloor energy coexist. Their nights shapeshift across the afro-diasporaic sound continuum as a reminder of its interconnected story.
