Freddy K
all night long
Freddy K: techno activist. Since the ‘90s Alessio Armeni has been tireless campaigning from the dancefloor, defending vinyl, championing young talents and reinforcing the scene from the shadows. You will know him best for his marathon DJ sets and deviant selections.
Freddy K sets are characteristically mercurial and 100% tailored for the dance. He plays a “360°-style of techno,” which can include Soft Cell, WestBam or Bronski Beat—when the timing is just right.
The quest to make, play and release truly original dance music is the driving force in Rob Ellis's life.
The artist known as Pinch is a pioneer of dubstep, the sound that sparked one of the biggest waves of musical creativity ever seen in the UK. Subloaded, which he began in his adopted hometown of Bristol back in 2004, was the first dedicated dubstep and grime night outside of FWD>> in London, and to this day the impact of the party still ripples through Bristol's bass community. His DJ sets and productions take the term "dub techno" not as a concrete blueprint laid down by Basic Channel in the 1990s, but as a creative springboard to explore and combine two of the most versatile music styles ever conceived. The bass and dynamics of dub are interwoven with the tense soundscapes and atmospheres of techno. This is why you might find Pinch scorching the dance floor at a techno club one week, before rolling out a set of the heaviest dub, dubstep and dancehall the next.
While Dutchman Dave Huismans would later become equally reknowned for his longest going project A Made Up Sound, it was as 2562 – refering to his former The Hague zipcode and coming out via Bristol’s legendary Tectonic Recordings – that he initially made the biggest splash, pioneering a crossover between techno and the deeper strains of the then emerging new sound of dubstep in the mid to late 00’s alongside peers like Pinch, Martyn, Peverelist and Appleblim, making an impact that has been resonating ever since, all the way into today’s global bass music scene.
“I’ve no idea how Dave does it, but his tracks manage to be at once totally self-contained, like variations on a theme existing in their own private universe, and totally outward-looking and expansive, touching on the fault lines between scenes and styles and sounding relevant in countless different contexts. His music is unmistakable, and it’s been a staple of my sets (...) The way he works with rhythm is unparalleled—I remember seeing him play his first ever live set at Freerotation and after dancing for 45 minutes and hearing his percussion unraveling and twisting over itself, a friend turned to me and said, “There are no rhythms left! That’s it; he’s done all of them!” – Ben UFO

Born in France to English parents, Beatrice M. creates a signature blend of syncopated UK-genres (mainly dubstep), with trancy technoïd groovers, and balances old school elements with crisp and contemporary sound design. The Bait label head aims to push and merge these same sonics through their imprint, which results in an output of snare heavy bass music and immersive psychedelic techno.
Freddy K returns with an all-night long. Joyn him for a 12 hour journey. From midnight to 12 noon.
