On the occasion of the final day of Wolfgang Tillmans' special exhibition "Ausstellung in Remscheid" at Haus Cleff in Wuppertal's neighbouring city of Remscheid, just 30 minutes from Open Ground, we are pleased to present Wolfgang Tillmans' Playback Room, marking the first time that the artist present his own musical production on a high-end sound system. Playback Room was originally conceived by Tillmans in 2014 as a project exploring the possibilities of exhibiting recorded music in contemporary art spaces. Tillmans presented three of these exhibitions at Between Bridges in Berlin, featuring "Colourbox - Music of the band 1982-1987", "American Producers" and "Bring Your Own". Later versions were presented at Lenbachhaus, Munich in 2016 and Tate Modern, London in 2017. The initiative resulted in the idea being taken up by a number of art institutions since.
Today's session is devoted to Tillmans' own musical production which he began in 1986 in his native Remscheid and in Wuppertal where the song "Time Flows All Over" was recorded. After a 30 years hiatus he returned to recording music in 2016 when his song "Device Control" appeared on Frank Ocean's album "Endless". Over the last ten years he continued to release a number of EPs and two full length albums. This evening's programme brings together examples of Tillmans’ musical and vocal production, from percussive field recordings and spoken word pieces to fully produced pop songs in a listening session, with the artist present.

The ticket is also valid for the club night if you arrive by 20:30

Playback Room in Freifeld is sold out.
With a ticket for the Clubnight however you are invited from 20:00 to hear the music through the speakers in the Lobby.
