Kaifeng-born, now London-based Yu Su is a musician, DJ, sound artist and occasional chef. As one of the most prominent Chinese artists with a highly unique voice working across the globe in the last 5 years, her output covers all the ground you’d expect and more. Her multiple critically acclaimed records on UK’s Technicolor (Ninja Tune), Netherlands’s Music from Memory and China’s own Bie Records has seen her nominated for Canada’s Polaris Prize. She has co-produced music with John Carroll Kirby, Duval Timothy and is known for remix works for Parquet Courts, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, and many more. As a DJ, she is unpredictable, idiosyncratic; just “casually having the dance floor transfixed” have put her on the spotlights at clubs and festivals internationally like Dekmantel, Glastonbury, Boiler Room, iii Points, Nuits Sonores, Rainbow Disco Club, Phonox and so on. She has also recently been featured on the cover of Mixmag magazine, marking the first Chinese cover star. She has composed for feature films and fashion brands like Sacai, Jimmy Choo and London/Shanghai based SAMUEL GUÌ YANG.

Last year’s late-night set left the room changed and it turns out the feeling was mutual. Dan Snaith, known to the world as Caribou and, under his club alias, as Daphni, has named that very night at Open Ground among the defining influences behind his new album Butterfly, released this February. In interviews, Snaith described the club as close to his ideal listening room a space built with obsessive care for sound, and for the people in it.

That night is woven into Butterfly itself: sixteen tracks that blur the line between his two aliases more than ever before, driven by pure dancefloor instinct. Now Daphni comes back to the club that helped shape the record a full-circle set, built for the room that inspired it.

DJ Firmeza proudly herald's from Quinta do Mocho in the periphery of Lisbon, a social housing bairro home to a diversely disfranchised afro-portuguese and lusophone immigrant community specially know for its OGs Dj Nervoso and Dj Marfox. Firmeza (aka Fifaz) is a revered and unmatchable DJ among the youth culture who live and shape the afrodiasporic post-kuduro ecosystem. Master of a unique percussive-heavy trance-inducing style to the art of mixing, he has been playing out in a wide amplitude of contexts and settings, from a Berlin's Schinkel Pavillon terrace party to a Bienne's geodesic compound in the woods, from a wrap up party at Germany’s pavilion at the Venice Biennale to a memorable performance in Lowlands festival, besides a couple of US & Canada visits and touring lyf in Beijing, Shenzhen and Seoul.

He co-founded the super-group O Ghettão, along with Danifox and Dj Nigga Fox.

DJ Nigga Fox is one of electronic music’s more enigmatic artists and a linchpin of a thriving Afro-Portuguese music scene with its home in Lisbon, Portugal. A visionary producer with a unique style that combines his African heritage with the rhythms of innovative underground electronic music. Within his work, the composer, producer and DJ draws on kinetic electronics, batida rhythms and house-rooted grooves resulting in a propulsive, syncopated sound that consistently guarantees high-octane dancefloor heat.

For the first time ever, DJ Firmeza and DJ Nigga Fox go back-to-back at Open Ground on Saturday 3 October. This night gets to the heart of Lisbon's thriving Afro-Portuguese dance music scene with two masters of batida — the kuduro-born club sound forged in the city's Quinta do Mocho estate. DJ Nigga Fox is the avant-garde producer whose debut record O Meu Estilo put Príncipe on the international map, (and he carries a restless, high-voltage sound) and whose DJ sets are celebrated as psychedelic literature for the dancefloor. DJ Firmeza is a master of a unique, percussive-heavy, trance-inducing approach to the art of mixing. Expect raw, unrelenting batida and a stack of unreleased weapons.

Both artists have a home at Príncipe Discos one of Europe’s most exciting record labels. The label's co-founder José Moura says batida blew his mind the first time he heard it: "We couldn't pinpoint it. We thought, this is really something we've never heard before. It's not techno, it's not house, it's nothing that we know about.” Originating in Luanda, Angola, it evolved into a vibrant underground movement in the suburbs of Lisbon, Portugal, driven by 140 BPM rhythms blending traditional Angolan and Cape Verdean styles (like kuduro, tarraxinha, funaná, and semba) with modern techno and house production.
