DJ Pete: It's hard to imagine techno culture without DJ Pete. He started DJing in the late 80s and joined Hard Wax in 1991, making him the longest-serving employee of the legendary Berlin record store. Behind the decks, he earns respect for his individual but refined mixing skills with his encyclopedic knowledge of techno history and an unquenchable thirst for new sounds. His energetic sets also feature elements of pure techno, the hard-wax tradition and powerful house tracks. A typical DJ Pete performance is always a mixture of programming, sequencing, layering and live effects that goes far beyond the pure presentation of tracks.

Surgeon: Over the course of his career, the Birmingham resident has perfected a unique and uncommonly effective production style. His is a tough techno sound with an industrial murk about it but also plenty of funk, swing and a sophisticated sense of dub-space learned in part from his Chain Reaction contemporaries in Berlin. Proving that hard can also be smart, sensuous and danceable, Surgeon is a selector of some skill and one of the most inventive, intuitive DJs out there.

Der Antrieb in Rob Ellis’ Leben ist die Suche danach, wirklich originelle Tanzmusik zu machen, zu spielen und zu veröffentlichen.

Der Künstler, bekannt als Pinch, ist ein Pionier des Dubstep – jenem Sound, der eine der größten Wellen musikalischer Kreativität ausgelöst hat, die das Vereinigte Königreich je gesehen hat. Subloaded, eine Veranstaltungsreihe, die er 2004 in seiner Wahlheimat Bristol ins Leben rief, war die erste Dubstep- und Grime-Nacht außerhalb von FWD>> in London – und bis heute hallt der Einfluss dieser Party durch die Bass-Community Bristols.

Seine DJ-Sets und Produktionen verstehen den Begriff „Dub Techno“ nicht als starre Vorlage, wie sie in den 1990er Jahren von Basic Channel entworfen wurde, sondern als kreativen Ausgangspunkt, um zwei der wandlungsfähigsten Musikstile überhaupt zu erforschen und miteinander zu verbinden: die Bassstruktur und Dynamik des Dub verschmelzen mit den angespannten Klanglandschaften und Atmosphären des Techno.

Deshalb kann es gut sein, dass man Pinch in der einen Woche den Dancefloor eines Technoclubs brennen sieht – und in der nächsten Woche ein Set aus schwerem Dub, Dubstep und Dancehall erlebt.
